CTF/Hacking Tools
Hi there!
Has you probably know you need the proper tools to get the job done! In this journey I have been marking the tools I am using to solve challenges and find vulnerabilities in CTFs and vulnerable boxes.
In this page you can find a list of the tools that I use to solve CTFs and to practice hacking. Hope it is useful for you. If you know some relevant tool that it is not here let me know!
- Autopsy – Computer Software that allows us to perform forensic analysis in disk images.
- burp – Burp is a tool that penetration testers and security researchers use to test web applications.
- curl – “cURL is a computer software project providing a library and command-line tool for transferring data using various network protocols.” (Reference: Wikipedia)
- ExifTool – It allows you to edit and see the metadata of files.
- gdb – This is a tool for debugging, reverse-engineering and binary analysis.
- hexedit – This tool from Linux allows the edition of the hexadecimal of files, could be interesting to change/edit the magic number of files.
- Linux – Linux is a free and open source operating system. The majority of hacking tools are written for Linux and sometimes do not even work on Windows. It is a great OS for this particular purpose. Linux comes in several flavors (distributions as we call it), they all have their merits and you can pick the one you prefer.
- nmap – It is a network mapper, open source that is used for network discovery and security auditing.
- pngcheck – This tool allows you to check what is wrong with a png file. It is very useful to fix problems with PNG file headers for example.
- Python – Python is a very powerful programming language. It is simple to use, simple to learn and it is a scripting language making it a great option for automation and to write simple attacks.
- QSSTV – This tool combined with pavucontrol allow you to decode hidden images in audio files, one of the types of steganography.
- Radare2 – This is a tool for reverse-engineering and binary analysis.
- Wireshark – Network packet analyzer.
- Xxd – it makes an hexdump of a file, it can also do the reverse.
This is an ongoing work and I will be adding tools as I develop my skills as a CTF player and Hacker.
There is obviously a bunch to identify about this. I consider you made various good points in features also.
